New Tern shopper runs with Olympic torch
We are very proud to be able to say one of our new shoppers, Glenn Chambers, had the privilege of running with the Olympic torch earlier this month.
Glenn was nominated by his wife Donna, for his dedication to sport over the last 30 years. Whilst in the police service he played for both the England and British teams for 15 years, winning many competitions along the way including the European Championships in 1989 where they beat Italy 1-0. Glenn then went on to manage both teams for 15 years. He also completed his FA coaching badges and now coaches football in Primary schools.
In addition Glenn has run the Nottingham half marathon for the last 12 years - raising lots of money for various charities – and was recently presented with an award of excellence for his services to sport whilst serving as a police officer.
Speaking about his special day Glenn said ‘Having been selected to run with the torch I felt very proud and honoured to be part of an amazing journey. The day itself was fantastic and the thunder, lightning and torrential rain added to the drama throughout the day. When it was my turn to run we had to delay for a few minutes due to the weather for health and safety reasons. We managed to do the exchange of the flame inside the bus and I was on my way. The picture on the front of the Daily Telegraph the following day said it all. An amazing day and one I will never forget.’
Tern will be sponsoring Glenn for his next half marathon later this year.
